To writhe (verb): to twist, wring, or contort (a part of the body)

From the Proto-Germanic *wrīþaną, meaning twist or turn.

 

Agony (noun): extreme mental or physical suffering, particularly that of Jesus Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane.
